Konrad Fijołek is the Mayor of the City of Rzeszów. He has been involved in the management of the refugee crisis since February 24. Together with the municipal staff and citizens of Rzeszów he provided support to refugees in many different aspects. Rzeszów, as the first large city near the border with Ukraine has been heavily affected by the war in Ukraine. In the peak of the crisis the city which is normally inhanbited by 200 000 people, hosted 100 000 refugees.
Apart from the crisis management regarding the war in Ukraine, the Mayor has been very actively involved in the matters concerning involving citizens in the process of management of the city, including Urban Lab, urban app Rzeszów is Us (information and intervention), participatory budget, advisory councils (youth, senior citizens, women, economic, sport, culture, students). His focus has always been the improvement of the quality of life in Rzeszów and that is why the city joined the Net Zero Mission conducted by the European Commission. A variety of activities has been and is being implemented in this respect, with emphasis put on mobility, energy and digitalization.
