Adama Sangaré, Mayor of the District of Bamako since 6 July 2007, holds a Master's degree in Private Law from the École Nationale d'Administration du Mali and an MBA from the Ecole des Sciences et de Gestion of the Université du Québec à Montréal. He was also a lecturer at ENA and a lawyer. Prior to being Mayor of Bamako he was already active at local level. From 1998 to 2007, he was Deputy of Commune III and Chairman of the District twinning and Cooperation Commission. On an international level he has a seat on the governing bodies of the International Association of French-speaking Mayors, United Cities and Local Governments, METROPOLIS, GSEF, CCT- UEMOA, etc.
