Ernest is an Economics graduate. He has served in several key positions in both the European Parliament and the Catalan Parliament. Until 2003, Ernest carried out most of his political activity in the Barcelona City Council, where he served as Councillor for Finance and Public Function and President of the Sant Andreu District Council and later as Councillor for the Presidency and Finance. In addition, Ernest has held important positions such as President of the Municipal Institute of Information Technology, President of the Municipal Institute of Finance and Vice-President of the Municipal Institute of Education. Ernest's political experience extends beyond the local level, having served as Secretary of the Government and Minister of Education for the Government of Catalonia and as Minister of External Action, Institutional Relations and Transparency.
